6月5日は「世界環境デー」”World Environment Day”レスレクション小学校では、午前中に各学年のテーマに沿った活動、午後は学年ごとの発表を行う予定でしたが、どの学年も作品が仕上がらないため、発表は翌日に延期となりました。現在受け持っている6年生は「ポスター作り」と「クイズ」。絵を描くことは大好きなパプアの子。とても上手に描きます。
4年生の若手の先生が、生徒に環境問題の映像を見せていました。

そして、翌日の発表会の光景です。私は開会の辞を担当しました。
そこでスピーチした内容です。
Deforestation is to reduce resources. Environmental destruction will occur by deforestation. It is also one of the reasons for promoting global warming. What should we do to protect rich resources?
Japan does not cut down its own forest, but instead cuts forests from other countries. Why? That is because the prices of forests in other countries are cheaper compared. For that reason, in other countries cutting down to export to Japan. We Japanese are wasting resources. We Japanese also import logs and lumber from Papua New Guinea. Therefore, I am not in the position to lead.
But I will leave one messsage. It is the forest that makes rich water, rich land, rich environment. We can live because there are forests. Forests make water, make air, and make food, do not they? How can we live without forests in the future we envision? So far is science developed? Or may they fly to a different star in search of a richer environment? No one knows the distant future. What we can do is to preserve the current global environment. It is to protect forest.
I am reflecting as a Japanese who used too much wood from all over the world. However, there is only one earth. Papua New Guinea and Japan are the same Spaceship Earth. Trees you plant today will breathe as part of the earth.

そして最後は5年生、6年生によるディベートです。
しかし最初の1人が発言したところで終業時刻となりまして、解散。たった3分のディベート。最初から時間を決めていないからこういうことに･･･。何だかスッキリしない幕切れとなりました。

環境問題を扱うのは良いのだけれど、まずは身近なポイ捨てを止めることがこの国には大切なことじゃないのかな～と思いました。
